Phlex films

I co-founded Phlex and, for most of its life, I was also its whole film department. These are the pieces I made alone between 2019 and 2023: concept, camera, underwater, edit, grade, sound. They span a hardware launch, two athlete portraits, an explainer that had to make machine learning legible, and a community series that widened the brand past elite swimmers.

The Perfect Race, with Calvyn Justus

The product had specs; it needed gravity. I shot Calvyn's training ritual at USC with almost no dialogue, leaned on sound design and underwater sequences, and let the tracker appear as a beat in his routine rather than a feature. This film set the tone for everything Phlex made after it.

Ready For Takeoff, with Cody Miller

Two short pieces with an Olympic medalist at Indiana. The risk with a world-class athlete is the piece turning into an advert; I kept the camera nimble, followed Cody's personality on deck, and let the product show up where it actually did.

Phlex EDGE crowdfunding launch film

Hardware, software and machine learning explained to backers who were not engineers. Plain-language voiceover, clean UI animation, real pool footage. It anchored the campaign page and was cut down for social. The campaign passed $50K.

Swim Tracking Data and the Insights of Phlex Swim

The explainer customers were sent when they asked what the numbers meant. Underwater cinematography, motion graphics I built for the charts, UI demonstrations, and a sports scientist checking the claims. Polar supplied footage.

Triathletes, coaches and everyday swimmers

A portrait and reel series on Instagram that took the brand beyond pros without loosening the look: one lighting style, one restrained palette, subjects from age-group triathletes to masters swimmers.
